FAQs: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ABOUT DIABETES

Q: How did a diabetic's pancreas become sick or destroyed?
A: Research indicates that many things stress and damage a person's pancreas. Some very interesting and yet not-so-well-known research studies that Dr. Gringeri goes over in his community lecture will give you much more insight into this phenomenon. Recent research is verifying that toxins cause diabetes.

Q: What is the main purpose or function of the pancreas?
A: We think of the pancreas as the gland that makes insulin. It does make insulin and it also makes a host of other products including the hormone glucagon, but the most abundant product of the pancreas is digestive juice – an enzyme-rich juice that plays a major role in digestion.

Q: Can a damaged pancreas ever recover and heal?
A: Many patients regain enough pancreatic function, with fuel, oxygen, and spark [nerve system activation] that even after many years of medications and insulin, they no longer need drugs, and their doctors take them off of their medications. This improved function would lead me to believe that the pancreas has healed to some degree.

Q: If someone has had diabetes for 30 years and is on insulin and multiple medications, how can that person's pancreas recover?
A: The body has an amazing inborn (innate) ability to repair and recover. This is the basic premise of chiropractic … that the body is able to heal itself. The body's most important function is converting food to energy, and the Human Engine approach supports this very basic function allowing the body to do what it was made to do: Heal Itself.

Q: What exactly is neuropathy and can anything be done to reverse it?
A: Neuropathy comes from stress, damage, or death of nerve cells, which causes loss of nerve function. Oxygen, fuel, and spark increased on a proper gradient can sometimes improve the function of failing nerve cells. Once a nerve cell dies there is no recovery. Ideally, a diabetic will address failing nerve function before the nerves die, with nutrition and therapies that will rehabilitate the nerves ability to heal and regenerate.

Q: Are ALL drugs toxic or poison?
A: Yes.There is a test called an LD50.This name stands for "lethal dose 50%" and for many years this was the first test done when a company wanted to take a drug to market. The purpose of the test was to discover the amount per gram of body weight that will kill 50% of the test subjects on which the drug was tested. Recently a drug company executive with diabetes attended our Diabetes lecture. Dr. G asked the group the question: Are all drugs toxic? The executive said YES they were ... and this was the concern that had him attend my lecture.

Q: How much more oxygen do I need, than what I get from normal breathing if I'm sick with diabetes, or other digestive problems?
A: Oxygen is needed to burn your fuel. Aerobic exercise helps to oxygenate the blood but as we age, we usually do not move or exercise enough to sufficiently oxygenate our blood.

Q: Why do people tend to have more gas and bloating as they get older?
A: A particular study showed that young adults (21-31) have 30x more digestive enzymes in their saliva than older adults (69-100). If it is true that older people have more gas, decreased digestive capacity is likely the cause.

Q: If I have chronic fatigue, is there any way I could ever find enough energy to begin to turn my health around?
A: A thorough history and physical exam is needed to fully answer this question. Much of the energy your body produces is needed and used to convert your food to energy. If your digestive system is not working well, most of your energy gets used up or sapped just in the process of digestion. Focusing on improved digestion while correcting vitamin and mineral deficiencies often significantly improves chronic fatigue.

Q: Why has my doctor not told me anything about these things that you are teaching?
A: The word DOCTOR means TEACHER. Your MD is trained in the delivery of medications and drugs, making him/her a teacher of drug therapy. Many MDs have not had much education or training in med school in nutrition. They are excellent at diagnosing symptoms, then prescribing drugs to address those symptoms.

Q: If I need enzymes to digest food as I get older, can I just buy them off the shelf at the health food store?
A: That could be of some benefit, but you would be guessing at what you need, and the likelihood of a desired result is minimized. There are many types of enzymes that all have various functions. Some are for digestion, some reduce inflammation, etc. There are simple tests to determine what exact deficiencies a body suffers from. What your body lacks and needs will be different than those needs of another. You want to replace and supplement the right kind of enzymes to handle the deficiency from which your body is suffering.

Q: Are there any other doctors who do what you do?
A: I have had a few extremely competent teachers over my 25 years of practice and schooling who have laid the groundwork for the work that I do. I think that I have blended these disciplines in a different manner than any of my colleagues and have had some very good success as a result. In the near future, I plan to teach my methods to other Chiropractors and practitioners of the healing arts.
